thrusting my weapon cautiously and gradually in and out of the charming

distress less it might betray her, but I managed to prevent any of it
getting upon her dress and persuaded her to accompany me to a small
fountain a little way off where, dipping my handkerchief in the water,
I first removed all marks of the conflict, and then continued to bathe
the swollen and tender lips which still bore traces of the fierce
nature of the combat. Finding the cooling sensation was grateful to
her, I continued the application until the sight of her charms, thus
