y fine Magnolia, resembling the preceding in habit and foliage, but in its flowers approaching nearer to _M. hypoleuca_. These are from five to six inches in diameter, cream colour on the inside, and exhaling a pleasant perfume like that of Calycanthus. The broad ring of incumbent yellow stamens, with blood-red filaments, is a conspicuous ornament of the expanded flower.
