scroll; And wrath has left its scar--that fire of hell Has left its frightful scar upon my soul. Yet though thou wear'st the glory of the sky, Wilt thou not keep the same beloved name, The same fair thoughtful brow, and gentle eye, Lovelier in heaven's sweet climate, yet the same? Full many a mighty name Lurks in thy depths, unuttered, unrevered. With thee are silent Fame, Forgotten Arts, and Wisdom disappeared. Thine for a space are they. Yet thou shalt yield thy treasures up at last; Thy gates shall yet give way, Thy bolts shall fall, inexorable Past! All that of good and fair Has gone into thy womb from earliest time Shall then come for
