and the God of Jacob?" God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. (33)And when the multitude heard it, they were amazingly struck with his doctrine. (34)But the Pharisees hearing that he had stopped the Sadducees' mouths, they assembled together: (35)and one of them, a teacher of the law, put a question to him, to make trial of him, and said, (36)Master, which is the great commandment in the law? (37)Then Jesus said to him, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind." (38)This is the first and great commandment. (39)And the second is like to it, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." (40)On these two commandments, the whole law and the prophets depend. (4)For they bind burdens grievous, and difficultly borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they will not move them with a finger of their own. (5)And all their works they do to be seen of men: they make their phylacteries broad, and deepen the fringes of their garments, (6)and love the principal couch at suppers, and the chief seats in the synagogues, (7)and salutations in the places of public concourse, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. (8)But be not ye called Rabbi, for one is your leader, the Messiah; and ye all are brethren. (9)And call no man your father upon earth; for one is your father, who is in heaven. (10)And be not called leaders; for one is your leader, the Messiah. (11)But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. (12)For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and whosoever abaseth himself shall be exalted. (13)Wo unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! becaus
