from the last unto the first. And when they came that were hired
about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny. But when
the first came, they supposed that they should have received more;
and they likewise received every man a penny. And when they had
received it, they murmured against the good-man of the house,
saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made
them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the
day. But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no
wrong; didst not thou agree with me for a penny? Take that thine
is, and go thy way; I will give unto this last even as unto thee.
Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine
eye evil, because I am good? So the last shall be first, and the

THE SUNDAY CALLED SEXAGESIMA,
OR THE SECOND SUNDAY BEFORE LENT
THE COLLECT.
O Lord God, who seest that we put not our trust in any thing that

they the seed of Abraham? so am I. Are they ministers of Christ?
(I speak as a fool,) I am more: in labours more abundant; in
stripes above measure; in prisons more frequent; in deaths oft.
Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one; thrice
was I beaten with rods; once was I stoned; thrice I suffered ship
wreck; a night and a day I have been in the deep; in journeyings
often; in perils of waters; in perils of robbers; in perils by
mine own countrymen; in perils by the heathen; in perils in the
city; in perils in the wilderness; in perils in the sea; in perils
among false brethren; in weariness and painfulness; in watchings
often; in hunger and thirst; in fastings often; in cold and
nakedness; besides those things that are without, that which
cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches. Who is weak,
and I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not? If I must
needs glory, I will glory of the th
