because I do always the things that please him. (30)As he spoke these words many believed on him. (31)Jesus therefore said to those Jews who have believed him: If ye continue in my word, ye are truly my disciples; (32)and ye shall know the truth, and the truth will make you free. (33)They answered him: We are Abraham's seed, and have never been in bondage to any one. How sayest thou: Ye shall be made free? (34)Jesus answered them: Verily, verily, I say to you, every one who commits sin is a servant of sin. (35)And the servant abides not in the house forever. (36)The Son abides forever; if therefore the Son shall make you free, ye will be free indeed. (37)I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word has no place in you. (38)I speak what I have seen with my Father; and ye therefore do what ye have heard from your father. (39)They answered and said to him: Our father is Abraham. Jesus says to them: If ye were children of Abraham, ye would do the works of Abraham. (40)But now ye seek to kill me, a man who has spoken to you the truth, which I heard from God.
