it is written: He will give his angels command
concerning thee, to keep thee; (11)and on their hands they shall bear
thee up, lest haply thou dash thy foot against a stone. (12)And Jesus
answering said to him: It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy
God.
(13)And having finished every temptation, the Devil departed from him
for a season.
(14)And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee; and
there went out a report concerning him through all the surrounding
country. (15)And he taught in their synagogues, being honored by all.
(16)And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And, as his
custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day; and he
stood up to read. (17)And there was delivered to him the book of the
prophet Isaiah. And unrolling the book, he found the place where it
was written:
(18)The Spirit of the Lord is upon me;
Because he anointed me to publish good tidings to the poor;
He has sent me to proclaim deliverance to the captives,
And recovering of sight to the blind,
To send the oppressed away free,
(19)To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.
(20)And rolling up the book he gave it again to the servant, and sat
down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fastened on him.
(21)And he began to say to them: To-day is this scripture fulfilled in
your ears. (22)And all bore witness to him, and wondered at the words
of grace which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said: Is not this
Joseph's son? (23)And he said to them: Ye will surely say to me this
proverb, Physician, heal thyself. Whatever we heard done in Capernaum,
do also here in thy country. (24)And he said: Verily I say to you, no
prophet is accepted in his own country. (25)But I tell you of a truth,
there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the
heaven was shut up three years and six months, when there was a great
famine throughout all the land; (26)and to none of them was Elijah
sent, but unto Zarephath of Sidonia, to a woman that was a widow.
(27)And there were many lepers in Israel, in the time of Elisha the
prophet; and none of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian.
(28)And all in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were
filled with wrath. (29)And they rose up, and thrust him out of the
city, and led him to the brow of the hill whereon their city was
built, to cast him down headlong. (30)But he, passing through the
