ith them, and says to them: Be of
good cheer; it is I, be not afraid. (51)And he went up to them into
the ship; and the wind ceased. And they were sore amazed in themselves
beyond measure, and wondered. (52)For they considered not the loaves;
for their heart was hardened.
(53)And passing over, they came to the land of Gennesaret, and
anchored there. (54)And when they had come out of the ship,
immediately recognizing him (55)they ran through all that region, and
began to carry about on beds those who were sick, where they heard he
was. (56)And wherever he entered, into villages, or cities, or fields,
they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and besought him that they
might touch if it were but the fringe of his garment. And as many as
touched him were made whole.
VII.
AND there come together to him the Pharisees and certain of the
scribes, who came from Jerusalem. (2)And seeing some of his disciples
eating bread with defiled (that is, unwashen) hands, they found fault.
(3)For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they carefully wash
their hands, do not eat, holding the tradition of the elders. (4)And
coming from the market, except they immerse themselves, they do not
eat. And there are many other things which they received to hold,
immersions of cups, and pots, and brazen vessels, and couches. (5)And
the Pharisees and the scribes ask him: Why do not thy disciples walk
according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with defiled
hands? (6)And he said to them: Well did Isaiah prophesy concerning you
hypocrites; as it is written:
This people honor me with their lips,
But their heart is far from me.
(7)But in vain they worship me,
Teaching as doctrines commandments of men.
(8)For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of
men, immersions of pots and cups; and many other such things ye do.
(9)And he said to them: Well do ye reject the commandment of God, that
ye may keep your own tradition! (10)For Moses said: Honor thy father
and thy mother; and he that curses father or mother, let him surely
die. (11)But ye say: If a man say to his father or his mother, It is
Corban (that is, a gift) whatever thou mightest be profited with from
me--[7:11]; (12)and ye suffer him no more to do aught for his father
or his mother, (13)annulling the word of God by your tradition, which
ye handed down. And many such things ye do.
(14)And again calling to him the multitude, he said to
