1776-1778--WM. THOMSON, resigned 1st October. Mr Thomson was assistant
and successor to Mr Porteous. When he resigned he had received, he
said, "the offer of an office in the republic of letters." He devoted
himself to literary pursuits; ultimately became a bookseller's hack,
and wrote a great number of works; became LL.D. of Glasgow in 1783;
died 16th March, 1817.

1781-1835--COLIN BAXTER, died 5th January.

1835-1843--JOHN FERGUSON. Seceded. Afterwards Free Church minister of
Bridge of Allan.

1843-1864--WM. ROBERTSON, died 9th June. Author of two hymns--"A
little child the Saviour came" and "Thee God we praise"--in _Scottish
