[1:18]This man therefore purchased a field with the price of the wickedness, and falling headlong burst in the middle and all his bowels were poured out; [1:19]and this became known to all who lived at Jerusalem, so that that field was called in their language Aceldamach, which is Field of blood. [1:20]For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his dwelling be desolate and let no one dwell in it, and his superintendency let another take. [1:21]It is necessary therefore that one of the men who have gone with us all the time in which the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, [1:22]beginning from the baptism of John till the day on which he was taken up from us, should be made with us a witness of his resurrection. 5 [1:23]And they proposed two; Joseph called Barsabbas, who was also called Justus, and Matthias. [1:24]And praying, they said, Do thou, Lord, the searcher of all hearts, show which of these two thou hast chosen [1:25]to take the place of this service and apostleship from which Judas fell by transgression to go to his place. [1:26]And they cast their lots, and the lot fell to Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles. CHAPTER II. THE DAY OF PENTECOST AND ITS BLESSINGS. 1 [2:1]AND when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all with one mind together. [2:2]And suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of a violent wind borne along, and it filled all the house where they were sitting; [2:3]and there appeared to them divided tongues as of fire, and [one] sat on each one of them; [2:4]and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. 2 [2:5]And there were Jews living at Jerusalem, pious men, of every nation under heaven; [2:6]and when this sound was [heard], the multitude came together and were astonished, for they each one heard them speaking in his own language.
