In 1883 appointed governor-general of Canada; and at the end of his term, 1888, went to India as viceroy. On his return, became secretary for war in 1895, and in 1900 foreign secretary. In 1639 sailed for Quebec, and with her companions began there the important work of ministering to the sick and educating Indian girls.
