m the cup was found are my lord's slaves." But
Joseph said, "Far be it from me that I should do so! The man with whom
the cup was found shall be my slave; but you yourselves go up in peace
to your father."
Then Judah came close to him and said, "Oh, my lord, let your servant, I
beg of you, speak a word in my lord's ears, and let not your anger be
aroused against your servant, for you are even as Pharaoh. My lord asked
his servants, saying, 'Have you a father or a brother?' And we said to
my lord, 'We have a father, an old man, and a child of his old age, a
little one. As his brother is dead, he is the only son of his mother who
is left; and his father loves him.' You said to your servants, 'Bring
him down to me, that I may see him.' But we said to my lord, 'The boy

there is no boy, he will die, and your servants will bring down the gray
hairs of your servant our father with sorrow to the grave. For your
servant became responsible for the boy to my father, when I said, 'If I
do not bring him to you, then I will bear the blame before my father
