Received his education partly at the village school, partly from the Anglican clergyman who was a friend of his father, but mostly from a trunk full of books which his father and mother had brought from the East. Came to Winnipeg in his early twenties with one hundred and fifty dollars; hired a garret and wrote hard while the money lasted; placed his first story with Everybody's Magazine, August, 1905, and has been in journalism since.
